Laser Powder Cladding for the Repair of Industrial Components, Including Gas and Steam Turbine Components

TMC provides consulting services in laser materials processing, including cutting, welding, cladding, transformation hardening, engraving and marking.

One of the fastest growing and probably technologically most challenging technologies is Laser Powder Cladding (LPC). LPC process provides unique, versatile method of restoring or even upgrading the original properties of damaged parts.

Several components such as blades or vanes of the gas and steam turbine can be rebuilt using the LPC process. It is used for automated repair of cracks and rebuilding of worn sections.

Examples:

bullet

Steam pressure control valves can be rebuild and protected from the severe corrosive environment

bullet

Erosion shields for the steam turbine LP blades

bullet

Hydraulic piston & cylinder repair

bullet

Repair of various gas turbine components

bullet

Protective layers for boiler and heat exchanger tubing

Typical laser clad materials include the following:

bullet

Metal matrix/WC, SiC, Cr3C2 (up to 80% vol. of carbide) and metallic layers

bullet

Intermetallic layers such as: Ni3Al, Ni3Al + Al2O3, Ni3Al + ZrO2 and MCrAlY

bullet

Superalloys such as Waspaloy and various Ni-based alloys such as C276, IN625, IN718 and IN738

bullet

Single crystal (SX), and directionally solidified (DS) materials such as CMSX-4, Mar-M 509 (SX), and Mar-M 247, Mar-M 509 (DS)

bullet

Stellite 21, Stellite 6, Stellite 6B and various Stellite 6/carbide compositions

bullet

Tribaloy 400 and 800, Armacor M
