Plasma deposited coatings are widely used for protection of both, metallic and non-metallic surfaces against various types of damage, repairing of worn surfaces, or preparation of free-standing, relatively thin-walled structures.
For example, our staff has plasma sprayed coatings on the surfaces of piston guides and hydraulic press sleeves, water turbine nozzles, and various components of pumps and
gas and steam turbines. Our plasma sprayed ceramic materials are being used as protective coatings for erosion, wear, corrosion, high temperature and thermal shock applications.
HVOF sprayed carbide based coatings provide excellent protection against very
severe abrasive wear and erosion. One of the most successful applications -
protection against solid particle erosion (SPE) and water droplets erosion (WDE)
of the steam turbine LP blading.
Examples of Other Practical Industrial Applications:
-
Paper-pulp-mill, centrifugal pump components (suction head, sleeve) - plasma deposited ceramic coatings improve the wear characteristics of these components
-
High temperature
erosion resistance of various aircraft, power generation and automotive components
-
Wear/erosion
protection of various steel mill components, including rolls
-
Mining
equipment - wear protection of parts
-
Slurry
pump components, sleeves in particular
-
Medical coatings - coatings for implants and
laparoscopic instrumentation
-
Very dense wear resistant ceramic coatings - excellent wear resistance (mechanical seals, textile industry, mining)
-
Wear resistant oxide and carbide coatings
for the protection for textile industry machinery components (thread guides, rollers) against abrasive wear of the thread
